Karpov's pet line: Black recaptures with 4...Nd7 instead of 4...Bf5, preparing ...Ngf6 to challenge the e4 knight without weakening the kingside. After the trade on f6, Black gets a flexible, super-solid structure with the light-squared bishop still ready to deploy. A favourite of positional players who like quiet manoeuvring battles.
