The classical mainline of the Advance, where after 5.Nf3 Qb6 6.a3, White prepares b4 to gain queenside space and protect the d4 pawn. Named after Aaron Nimzowitsch, who pioneered the modern handling of the Advance French. Both sides build patiently before the position erupts in the middlegame.
