The modern mainline of the Sveshnikov, where after 8...b5 White retreats with 9.Nd5, planting a powerful knight on the central outpost. Black accepts long-term structural weaknesses (the d5 hole and backward d-pawn) in exchange for the bishop pair and active piece play. Used by Magnus Carlsen in his 2018 World Championship match.
